Most of the food we eat and see today, even ‘naturally grown’ food, would have been unidentifiable to people, back then. For example, maize in Mexico was turned from a weak, useless plant to juice, essential food source we enjoy today. All the food we eat today is genetically modified in somehow,  just because if someone is growing it in their own garden without pesticides, doesn’t say that the seed they planted didn’t come from an organism that experience huge selection in the past to make it bigger or sweeter. All biotechnology is doing is speeding up this process. Most of the people believe that the U. S, should support the development of more biotechnology to genetically modify food, while others believe they shouldn’t.Many people believe that the U.S. should support the development of more biotechnology to genetically modify food for some reasons. First, “Genetic engineering can also make plants that resist harmful insects and diseases. Insects can destroy millions of crops each year. Insect damage costs millions of dollars and can cause starvation in some countries. Genetically engineering food could help feed the 800 million undernourished people in the world. The United Nations estimates that the world population will grow from 6 billion to 9 billion by 2050. Some say we need to use new biotechnology to produce enough food for poor” SERP(2012) This means that Genetically modified foods are advantageous to the environment, health, and even more than normal plants. Furthermore, genetically modified foods are actually beneficial. Scientists can make them more healthy, or even add vaccines to the foods.Some people believe that the U.S. shouldn’t support the development of more biotechnology to genetically modify food for a reason. First, “However, many European countries ban or regulate genetically modified foods. Others require labels on them. Europeans are concerned about their food containing unnamed ingredients. For example, if a banana gene is added to corn, then it could cause an allergic reaction in people with rare banana allergies.” SERP(2012) This shows that since scientists have identified the risks, they can isolate them and work out other methods, or get rid of the problem. In addition, genetically modified foods might ultimately cause less allergic reactions. Finally, Genetic Modified foods are stronger than normal foods. They have been controlled to grow in conditions that they normally wouldn’t be able to survive in. In conclusion, Although there are some consequences to have the genetically modified  food. However, having genetically modified food helps the suppliers produce faster, cheaply and easily. Genetic food contains so much risk because it might have some negative effects on the consumers such as allergic reactions, and much more. Which would lead the demand for those foods to go down
