Jacklyn and Ted Jorgensen, Jeff’s biological parents were married less than a year. When Jeff was 4 years old his mother re-married, to Cuban immigrant Mike Bezos. With the dad out of the picture, Mike Bezos adopted former Jeff Jorgensen, becoming Jeff Bezos. During his elementary and middle school years, Jeff worked on a 25,000-acre family ranch in Texas with maternal grandpa, Lawrence Preston Gise near Cotulla. As of March 2015, Bezos was among the largest landholders in Texas. Once his family moved to Miami, Florida, he attended Miami Palmetto High School and received the silver knight award in 1982. In addition to that, he graduated valedictorian and a National Merit Scholar.Jeff pursued his interest in computers in 1986 at Princeton University. He graduated Phi beta kappa, the oldest honor society for the liberal arts and sciences in the United States. Jeff graduated with a degree in computer science and electrical engineering. After graduation, he worked at several firms on Wall Street, including Bankers Trust, Fitel and investment firm D.E. Shaw & Co. It was at D.E. Shaw & Co where he met his wife, Mackenzie, and became the company’s youngest vice president in 1990. While his career in finance was very profitable, Jeff made a risky move into e-commerce. He quit his job in 1994, moved to Seattle and opened an online bookstore later to become Amazon.com.Past Amazon Jeff has many other interest, one of his major interests begin space. Involving this, in 2000 Jeff Bezos founded Blue Origin, a human spaceflight startup company. This was a result of his fascination with space and in 2011 Jeff indicated that he founded Blue Origin to help enable “anybody to go into space” planning to open up space travel to paying customers. After speaking to Richard Branson in 2015 about commercial spaceflight opportunities and strategies the first test of Blue Origins New Shepard space craft was completed that year. As of December 12, 2017 the 11-minute flight with fake test passengers was a success and blue origin is planning to send willing customers into space starting in early 2019.
