CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

        This chapter presents the research design, sampling and
gathering of data, and statistical treatment that will be used in the study.

METHODS AND TECHNIQUES USED

        In
order to gather data on leadership description and institutional performance of
selected medical technology education institution in selected schools, colleges
and universities. The researcher will make use of the descriptive type of
research.

        This study will also involve correlation analysis between the
results among the three group of respondents (1) deans; (2) program heads; (3)
faculty, to determine the significant relationship and differences of the
responses.

POPULATION AND SAMPLE OF THE STUDY

        The population of the study will be composed of deans,
program heads, and faculty from the selected schools, colleges, universities
offering a program, medical technology in the National Capital Region.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

        In order to obtain pertinent data, the researcher will use
primarily questionnaire.  Other
techniques will also be utilized such as structured interview and observations.

Preparation. A survey
questionnaire will be utilized in the study. 
There will be parts: (a) respondent’s demographic profile; (b)
leadership practice inventory.

Validation. The questionnaire was
checked and validated by three school administrators and are experts on
leadership.

Administration and Retrieval.  The researcher is seeking for
permission from school authorities and waiting for approval followed prior to
administration and retrieval of the data.

DATA PROCESSING AND STATISTICAL TREATMENT

        The data will be treated using the following:

Percentage.  This technique will be used to describe the
profile of the respondents in terms of: 
age, status, gender, educational attainment, years of service.

        Percentage = f/N (100)

        Where:

                P = percentage

                f = frequency

                N = number of cases

 

        Weighted Mean.  This will be used to weigh the responses of
the respondents on the leadership description

        F – Test.  This will be used to determine the
significant differences of the responses of the three groups of respondents
whether statistically significant or not.
